Kriti Budhiraja is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Illinois Wesleyan University. She is a scholar of caste, higher education, and social reproduction, with a focus on how caste inequality persists and is contested amid the democratization of access to India's public universities. 

 

Her book project draws on ethnographic research with undergraduates at a public university in India to examine how caste is lived, reproduced, and occasionally disrupted through students' sociality on campus. Her article "Infrastructures of Sociality: How Disadvantaged Students Navigate Inequity at the University" (Sociological Forum, 2023) examines how marginalized students build informal networks of shared knowledge and resources to navigate inequities produced at the intersection of institutional routines and the uneven distribution of cultural, social, and economic capital. 

 

At Illinois Wesleyan, she teaches Race and Racism, Educational Inequalities, History of Social Thought, and Gateway Writing.
