The Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC) Multi-Country Fellowship Program supports advanced regional or trans-regional research in the humanities, social sciences, or allied natural sciences for U.S. doctoral candidates and scholars who have already earned their Ph.D. Preference will be given to candidates examining comparative and/or cross-regional research.

The NEA Literature Fellowships program offers $25,000 grants in prose (fiction and creative nonfiction) and poetry to published creative writers that enable the recipients to set aside time for writing, research, travel, and general career advancement. The NEA Literature Fellowships program operates on a two-year cycle with fellowships in prose and poetry available in alternating years. For FY 2013, which is covered by these guidelines, fellowships in poetry are available.

Summer Stipends support individuals pursuing advanced research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both. Recipients usually produce scholarly articles, monograph on a specialized subject, a book on a broad topic, an archaeological site report, a translation, an edition, a database, or other scholarly tools.  The award is $6,000 for two consecutive months of full-time research and writing.  Summer Stipends require institutional nomination.  If you are are interested in Summer Stipends please contact the Grants Office.

Fellowships support individuals pursuing advanced research in the humanities that contributes to scholarly knowledge or to the general public's understanding of the humanities.  Support is provided for projects that can be completed during the tenure of the award as well as for work that is part of a long-term endeavor.  Recipients usually produce scholarly articles, monograph on a specialized subject, a book on a broad topic, an archaeological site report, a translation, an edition, a database, or other scholarly tools. Awards are $4,200 per month for awards of six to twelve months in duration.

Enduring Question grants support the development by up to four faculty members of a new course that will foster intellectual community through the study of an enduring question.  Grant amounts can be up to $25,000.

Traditional Fulbright Scholar Program.  The core Fulbright Scholar Program sends 800 U.S. faculty and professionals abroad each year. Grantees lecture and conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields.

The foundation welcomes proposals from any of the natural and social sciences and the humanities that promise to increase understanding of the causes, manifestations, and control of violence and aggression. Highest priority is given to research that can increase understanding and amelioration of urgent problems of violence and aggression in the modern world. Most awards fall within the range of $15,000 to $40,000 per year for periods of one or two years.

APS/British Academy Fellowship for Research in London
In collaboration with the British Academy, the APS offers an exchange postdoctoral fellowship for a minimum of one and a maximum of two months' research in the archives and libraries of London during 2013.

APS/Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities Fellowship for Research in Edinburgh In collaboration with the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH) at the University of Edinburgh, the APS offers a visiting fellowship of between two and four months for research in Edinburgh in the calendar year 2013 in any aspect of the humanities and social sciences.

The Visiting Scholars Program (VSP) is an interdisciplinary research fellowship housed at the headquarters of the Academy in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Its purpose is to stimulate and support scholarly work by promising scholars and practitioners in the early stages of their careers and to foster exchange between an emerging generation of scholars and Academy members with shared interests.

The National Humanities Center offers 40 residential fellowships for advanced study in the humanities during the academic year.  Most of the Center's fellowships are unrestricted. Several, however, are designated for particular areas of research. These include a fellowship for a young woman in philosophy and fellowships for environmental studies, English literature, art history, Asian Studies, and theology.

The Howard Foundation awards a limited number of fellowships each year for independent projects in selected fields (selected on a rotational basis). The Foundation targets its support specifically to early mid-career individuals, those who have achieved recognition for at least one major project.  Fields for 2012-2013 are: Photography, Anthropology, and Archeology.
